Getting started

  1. Install Mint Shipping Rules from the Shopify App Store. The app home shows what's live at checkout and a setup checklist.
  2. Add a rule (Rules → Add delivery rule or Add payment rule, or start from a template): choose what to do — hide, rename, move, or sort by price — which options it acts on (all, or by name and delivery method), and the conditions. The rule reads back as a sentence at the top of the editor.
  3. Try it in the Simulator: enter an address, items, the customer, and the delivery options and payment methods checkout would list. It runs the same engine as checkout and shows which rule did what.
  4. Save. The first delivery rule adds “Mint Shipping Rules: delivery rules” to Settings → Shipping and delivery → Delivery customizations; the first payment rule adds “Mint Shipping Rules: payment rules” to Settings → Payments → Payment customizations. From then on, checkout runs them.
  5. Rate tables (Pro): Rate tables → Add rate table, then Turn on. “Mint Shipping Rules” is added as calculated rates to your General shipping profile's zones; manage it, and set backup rates, in Settings → Shipping and delivery.

How rules work

  • Order matters. Rules run top to bottom. For each delivery option or payment method, the first matching hide, the first matching rename and the first matching move win; later rules of the same kind are flagged as conflicts on the Rules page.
  • Names are matched without regard to upper or lower case: “contains”, “is exactly” or “starts with”. Use the name customers see at checkout. For carrier-calculated rates Shopify always shows the carrier's name in front of a renamed option. Payment method names can differ with the checkout language, so add each spelling your customers may see.
  • Cart subtotal is after product discounts, before shipping and taxes, entered in your store currency and converted with Shopify's rate for customers paying in another currency.
  • Weight adds up the items that need shipping, from your product weights. Product tags are checked on each item (any item, every item, or no item); delivery and payment rules can each use up to 6 different product tags (72 characters in total).
  • Customer tags only count for customers signed in to their account; guests have none. B2B company buyers are customers buying for a company location.
  • Postcodes match by beginning (90 matches 90210; K1A matches K1A 0B1) or by a range of numbers with the same length (10000-14999). Spaces and case are ignored. When an address isn't known yet, “is” conditions don't match and “is not” conditions do.
  • Safety: with “Always keep at least one option” on (the default), an order never ends up with no delivery option or no payment method: the cheapest delivery option (or the first payment method) stays visible.
  • Cheapest first: Shopify requires the cheapest shipping option to stay first when apps reorder delivery options. When your move or sort rules would put a more expensive option first, the app keeps the cheapest one at the top of its kind (delivered or picked up).

Payment methods Shopify lets apps change

Manual methods (cash on delivery, bank deposit, money order) and third-party providers can be hidden, renamed and moved. Card payments can't be changed on some plans and countries, and wallets shown as logos (Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay) can be hidden but not renamed or reordered. Shopify ignores changes it doesn't allow.

Rate tables

  • Each table is one option at checkout, priced by weight, cart subtotal (after discounts) or number of items, with bands such as “up to 1 kg”, “up to 5 kg”, “above”.
  • Optional: per-item and handling fees, lowest and highest price, free from a cart subtotal, countries, provinces, postcodes to include or exclude, product tags, customer tags, and a delivery estimate in (business) days.
  • They need calculated rates from apps: Shopify includes them on the Advanced and Plus plans, on the Shopify plan with yearly billing and on development stores; Shopify Support can add them to other plans for a monthly fee. If your plan can't use them the app says so; delivery and payment rules still work.
  • Rate requests are answered by our service with your tables cached at the edge; Shopify shows your backup rates if an answer doesn't arrive in time.

Plans

  • Free: up to 3 rules (delivery and payment together) with country, province and cart subtotal conditions, the simulator and conflict warnings — on any store.
  • Pro ($7.99/month, 7-day free trial): up to 40 delivery rules and 40 payment rules, every condition, and up to 20 rate tables.
  • Moving back to Free keeps everything; your 3 oldest rules without Pro conditions keep running and rate tables stop answering until you upgrade.

Troubleshooting

  • A rule doesn't seem to apply: run the same cart in the Simulator. Check the rule's status on the Rules page (Paused rules say why) and that the customization is on in your Shopify settings — the app home shows both.
  • “Your store already has the most customizations Shopify allows”: Shopify allows 25 active delivery customizations and 25 active payment customizations per store. Mint Shipping Rules uses one of each.
  • Rates don't show at checkout: check that rate tables are turned on, the address is in the table's countries/provinces/postcodes, the cart's weight, subtotal or item count falls in a priced band, and that Mint Shipping Rules is used in that shipping zone (Settings → Shipping and delivery).
